St. Amant Winery Zinfandel Amador County 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes :The 2006 St Amant Zinfandel has arrived with it, one of the greatest old vine Zinfandels you will ever taste with the great write-up in the New York Times. Tasting Notes: This is one of the finest Old Vine Zinfandel out there period. The “cat got out of the bag” last year when New York Times columnist Howard Goldberg wrote, "Few Zinfandels are as deeply seductive as the Mohr-Fry Ranches version from the small St. Amant Winery in Lodi, Calif. Vines planted in 1944 gave the grapes rich character. This meaty red tastes of macerated berries, chocolate and oak. The longer it aerates in a glass the spicier it becomes. Pour it with barbecued ribs, beef stew, rack of lamb, shepherd’s pie and sausage." The wine sells out in months due to it’s incredible quality and it reasonable price. The wine is a monster. The wine is teeming with massive ripe raspberry and huge rich blackberry flavors. Soft and supple tannins compliment the finish of this delicious red. This wine has proven itself to be outstanding Zinfandel, the layers of fruit just linger on the palate. Not a Zin for the faint of heart.
