Spy Valley Wines Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Soft on the nose with green apple, pea tendril, cut green fruit and tomato leaf aromas. Medium body with a lovely texture, gauzy with a rich core of fruit. Gentle shadings of roasted chili to the crisp fruit lead to a soft, dry and nicely layered finish. This is mouthwatering. Plays a bit safe but in a very satisfying, middle of the road style. 88pts

This smells of a flower bouquet and light honey. It taste citrus and sweet. I wish it was more crisp. This was part of a wine tasting showdown. More on the tastings at http://dionyshius.blogspot.com/2012/03/showdown-saturday.html

Actually, 3.6 stars. Color, this wine has a nice clean color. It is a little be darker than the regular sauvignon blanc I would get from Australia. On the nose, there a lot of fresh tropical fruits going. I am picking a lot of grapefruit, kiwifruit, pineapple, clean fresh melon, and some grassiness, lime and lemon, very bright nose. Midpalate, very crisp, light, clean, some pears coming through, refreshing. Finish, this wine has a nice decent finish. It is very crisp and lemony. It makes you think of lemon and lime a lot! Some kiwifruit component is coming through. This is a nice summer afternoon wine. Very green, well balanced, nice acidity. It doesn't have that sauvignon blancy cat pee component, which is strange. It is bottled at 13%. I like this wine. It would play off beautifully with sushi and some goat soft cheeses. I am 90 pts on this effort. Happy drinking!

A nose of pure passion fruit that carries through the palate to a juicy finish, a hint of mineral and a bounce of spritzy excitement, not at all what I was expecting from a NZ Sauv Blanc. This will be the best Summer patio wine for 2011 - I guarantee!

Solid effort. The typical NZ citrus profile has a bit of a candied flair making it very approachable.

The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc displays a lovely lemongrass, white blossom and grapefruit peel nose with an undercurrent of dill, crushed stones and pears. Crisp, refreshing and clean in the mouth, it has a bit of vegetal kick in the medium to long finish. Drink it now to 2015.

Pale bright yellow-green. Cool aromas of lime peel grapefruit dusty stone fresh herbs and pepper. Juicy and moderately intense with a peppery quality to the soft citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Some unabsorbed CO2 gives the wine a brisk impression today. Finishes with a slightly raw tart-edged note of white grapefruit but also a hint of sweetness. A good effort for the vintage. Pale straw in color. Classic Marlborough aromas of grapefruit, elderflower and a fusion of tropical fruits. Crisp and fine with a silken mouthfeel. Pure fruit flavors persist through a dry finish. Pair with roasted chicken, light pasta dishes or Manchego cheese.
