Has a nice effervescent zing! Good acid and nice flavors. - Tasted at Wine Spectator New World Wine Experience 2010
Actually, 3.6 stars. Color, this wine has a nice clean color. It is a little be darker than the regular sauvignon blanc I would get from Australia. On the nose, there a lot of fresh tropical fruits going. I am picking a lot of grapefruit, kiwifruit, pineapple, clean fresh melon, and some grassiness, lime and lemon, very bright nose. Midpalate, very crisp, light, clean, some pears coming through, refreshing. Finish, this wine has a nice decent finish. It is very crisp and lemony. It makes you think of lemon and lime a lot! Some kiwifruit component is coming through. This is a nice summer afternoon wine. Very green, well balanced, nice acidity. It doesn't have that sauvignon blancy cat pee component, which is strange. It is bottled at 13%. I like this wine. It would play off beautifully with sushi and some goat soft cheeses. I am 90 pts on this effort. Happy drinking!
A nose of pure passion fruit that carries through the palate to a juicy finish, a hint of mineral and a bounce of spritzy excitement, not at all what I was expecting from a NZ Sauv Blanc. This will be the best Summer patio wine for 2011 - I guarantee!
Solid effort. The typical NZ citrus profile has a bit of a candied flair making it very approachable.
Oh Lawdy this stuff is fantastic. Hits all the right notes. The best NZ Sauv Blanc I've ever tasted.
Too hot - not well balanced at all. YuK!
Decent Sauv Blanc. Some fruit and a bit grassy. Does not stay with you very long.
External Reviews for Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
A racy, vibrant mouthful of lime, mineral and tropical fruit flavors that seem to burst through the long finish, lingering with an intriguing hint of apricot against lively acidity. Drink now.
Fragrant and lithe, with a bright beam of lime juice, baby powder and crushed stone. Grapefruit and tangy gooseberry tones accent the concentrated finish. Drink now through 2007.
Very pale color. Musky aromas of lemon, melon, orange pith and pepper. Supple and juicy, with moderate intensity to the lemon, herb and white pepper flavors. Finishes with moderate length. Not quite as bracing or firm as the '06 but easy to drink.
The 2007 Sauvignon Blanc is a workmanlike wine, typically herbaceous on the nose with a sharp, lime-tinged palate, though again abrupt on the finish.
A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2009 Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc 750ml
Aromas and flavors of pineapple and grapefruit are complicated by a more tropical element and a whiff of fresh herbs. Supple, sweet and generous, with just enough acidity to frame and lift the concentrated fruit flavors. A round style of sauvignon blanc with immediate sex appeal.
Good pale yellow. Textbook sauvignon aromas of lemon, white grapefruit and peppery spices. The juicy, bracing white grapefruit, gooseberry, mint and floral flavors convey an impression of energy without coming off as austere. Nicely perfumed and penetrating in the mouth and long on the aftertaste, with lingering notes of quinine, passion fruit and pepper.
