Spring Valley Vineyard is situated 12 miles northeast of Walla Walla, spread amid the picturesque wheat fields of southeastern Washington with the Blue Mountains providing the backdrop. The terroir demonstrates a mesoclimate that is ideally suited for growing wine grapes. The unique microclimate of Spring Valley also allows the grapes to develop their own distinct characteristics.
Initially, we planted a 2 acre block of Merlot in 1993 on a south-southwest facing hillside. The vines follow the north-south slope of the hills in vertical rows. This orientation, coupled with the declination of slope, allows the vines optimal use of sunshine, air drainage, and the reflective nature of the surrounding wheat fields.
Great care is taken when caring for the vineyard. Under Gaynor Derby’s direction, every grape is tended by hand, including crop thinning, leaf pulling, and harvesting, not to mention hand-burying individual canes to protect them from the cold in the winters of southeastern Washington.
Today, Spring Valley Vineyard consists of 115 acres of grapevines including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Read less

Lithe, refined and deftly balanced to show off its smoky blueberry compote and cherry flavors, which last on the long, expressive finish. The tannins are refined, but tightly packed. Needs time in the cellar to flower. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Caberne... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Washington in USA. 2004 Spring Valley Vineyard Uriah 750ml
