Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1986
Editorial Reviews for Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Cedary and spicy on the nose with a nice floral top note to the crisp black fruits. There’s a touch of iron on the nose and this shows very well with restrained elegance. Layered and rich in the mouth with the ability to evolve positively over some time in the glass. The firm mid-palate displays fine mint and oak spice framed black cherry fruit in a balanced, elegant style. The finish is clipped a bit by the tannins but this comes together rather well. 90pts
Our experience could not have been more disappointing. Upon opening, while the cork appeared fine, the bouquet was all wrong. The initial taste was interrupted by the nose when the glass was brought to the mouth. The wine was flat. We decanted it and the color was a dull garnet, with very little body. We put it aside to let it breathe and had an 2007 Continuum, then returned to the Spottswoode again, with no better result. Undrinkable. Unfortunately, Santa Rosa Fine Wines, while very sorry for our unfortunate experience, does not stand behind their offerings.
