Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

The 1998 release of Cabernet Sauvignon from Spottswoode is another classic reflection of our estate vineyard. This wine is friendly and quite approachable with all of the aromas and flavors that are characteristic of Spottswoode - blueberry, blackberry, plum, cassis and molasses. With a bit of dried rose petal, bay leaf and plum on the finish, this wine is a delicious drink upon release. Compared with some of the bigger, more heavily structured vintages in the 90's, our 1998 is a bit more refined, fruit driven and showy in its youth.

Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by Mary Weber Novak and her late husband, Dr. Jack Novak. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding. Today, two of Mary’s daughters, Beth and Lindy, work for the family winery that each year releases four very special wines: the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon and the recently-introduced Field Book Rhone. The Novak family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins. Each Spottswoode wine is known for its refined elegance, balance, and classic structure. Dedicated stewards of their property, the Novaks have farmed organically since 1985 and have pioneered the restoration of their local watershed. Read less

...Subdued, lightly floral aromas of black raspberry, boysenberry, licorice, mint and spicy oak. Juicy, bright and delineated, with a consistent texture and restrained sweetness. Shows a slight medicinal austerity. Not a particularly rich vintage but... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 1998 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
