Sportoletti Red Bordeaux Blend Umbria IGT Rosso Villa Fidelia 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points - I Vini di Veronelli (Daniel Thomases). 4 bunches - DUEMILAVINI 2011 - AIS Italian Sommelier Association. Not yet rated by the Wine Advocate. Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): While it's hard to describe a wine retailing for over $50 as a good value, in today's market ... Villa Fidelia offers as good a relative value as readers are likely to find. The Sportoletti family has produced wine in Umbria for three generations, but it wasn't until they joined forces with then up-and-coming enologist Ricardo Cotarella in 1998 that the world began to take notice. Both the Italian and American press immediately embraced the wines, with Robert Parker awarding Sportoletti's flagship Villa Fidelia Rosso 94 points in Cotarella's very first vintage, then 96 points in the second, and so on. By 2001, after a mere three years at the helm, Cotarella was named Gambero Rosso Winemaker of the Year and the wines have continued to improve ever since. 2008 is a vintage considered by many to be the best since 2004. Through a special futures purchase, we are pleased to now offer this wine at historically low pre-arrival pricing. Quantities are limited, so don't delay. ETA: November 2012.

Vintage: 2003 01/16/2009

Clean red, with plum, berry and a hint of floral and dark chocolate character. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a well-balanced, fresh mineral finish. Delicious even now. Lots of new wood. Best after 2006. 3,000 cases made. Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Umbria in Italy. 2003 Sportoletti Villa Fidelia Rosso 750ml

Fantastic aromas of crushed raspberries, currants and berries follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky and refined tannins and a long finish. Seductive wine. Best wine ever from here. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best afte... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Umbria in Italy. 2001 Sportoletti Villa Fidelia Rosso 750ml
