Winemaker's Notes:

This wine is made from the first harvest of grapes sourced from Spice Route's new vineyard on the edge of the Western Cape in the Darling region. This vineyard benefits greatly from a maritime influence as it looks out over the Atlantic Ocean which is perfect for Sauvignon Blanc - it ripens well due to the warm and sunny days but keeps good natural acidity and aromas because of the cooling winds in the afternoon and the corresponding temperature drop overnight. The vines are non irrigated and the bunches are hand harvested, destemmed and crushed at the winery before a temperature controlled cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The resulting wine is bright white gold in colour with flashes of emerald highlights. The nose is distinctly aromatic with fresh cut grass and green pepper elements and hints of tropical fruits. The palate is light to medium bodied and dry, packed with ripe gooseberry and lime fruits with hints of lychee and a crisp, mineral freshness which lifts the middle palate and keeps the finish lengthy and elegant. This incredibly versatile white is refreshing as a glass by itself but can also complement all manner of salads, canapes, entrees or white fish dishes. Its ripe fruit component makes it perfect as a foil to lightly spiced, Eastern influenced cuisine. Divine with sashimi or tempura dishes with spicy dipping sauces.
