Winemaker's Notes:

This is the first vintage of Mourvedre from Spice Route, who are proud owners of the most Mourvedre vines in all South Africa, and these are concentrated in a single vineyard within the boundaries of the Spice Route estate where Mourvedre is naturally at home in the hot and dry conditions. The vines are unirrigated and bush vine trained which naturaly restricts yield, and due to the arid conditions there is very little risk of disease, the vines therefore flourish as closely as possible to the way nature intends. The resulting wine is inky purple in colour with brick red hues, this wine has a powerful nose of jammy red fruits and warm spices with touches of vanilla oak. The palate is medium bodied and mouthwateringly juicy, showing ripe blackberry and crunchy redcurrant fruits, hints of mocha, liquorice and black pepper, finishing smooth with persistent buttery oak and spicy notes. structure and spicy character make it a great partner to red or white meat and dishes with rich or spicy sauces. Equally at home with pizza (particularly if it's from a wood fired oven), chargrilled or barbecued food.
