Spellbound Petite Sirah California 2007
Wine Tasting Notes The purple hue catches you immediately and your eyes begin to taste. Flavors of a freshly baked cherry cobbler along with mocha and coffee aromas jump out of the glass. A broad structure with pinpoint tannins and active acidity make each sip more appealing creating a desire for the next one.
Really enjoyed this at a recent tasting party. Rich blackberry up front with nice vanilla oak finish. Very relaxed tannins, nice balance. This was the 07 Napa, not the California.
Very tasty effort here, Always a crowd pleaser - this one will not disappoint!

Winemaker's Notes: A blend of 76% Petite Sirah, 10% Dornfelder and 14% Proprietary Dry Red Blend. The challenge with Petite Sirah is taming the tannins that naturally exist within the grape due to the berry size and high skin-to-juice ratio. To create a refined and approachable style, we start with Lodi as the focus appellation. Older vines and warmer temperatures ensure grape maturity. Fermenting all of the lots in stainless steel allows us to capture Petite Sirah’sintense berry fruit flavors. We also age select lots in stainless steel to maintain the brightness and acidity. These are blended with lots aged in French and American oak, lending undertones of vanilla crème bruléewhile softening the tannins and enhancing the structure. All factors combine to create a balanced style that is unmistakably Petite Sirah. Our signature 2007 Petite Sirahoffers rich, approachable, full-bodied flavors and supple tannins. The Lodi appellation fruit, aged in handcrafted, small oak barrels, provides backbone and structure to this lovely wine. Enjoy with friends!
