This is a dry, fairly smooth cab with some tannins but rather bland (2006). 86 pts

Scent is earthy, with berry and green wood notes. Dry, dark cherry flavor with a powdery finish.

Nice full bodied yummy CA Cabernet. I would guess that this one can really handle some cellar time. Tannins were very present and took a while to settle. Chocolate, cardamom and vanilla lingered on the palette. Definitely needs a decanting. I'd buy this one again.

A bit too much bite right out of the bottle, but settled after it breathed a while. Very good with grilled steak.

Rich and full, with well-focused currant, black cherry and spicy oak notes. Well balanced for an '88, with soft tannins. Ready now through 1994.

The richly fruity, straightforward 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley possesses spicy oak, elegant black currant fruit, tapenade, and underbrush characteristics. This tasty, fruit-forward, reasonably good value can be drunk over the next 7-8 years.

Souverain consistently produces a good, sometimes very good Cabernet at a decent price point, and their rsquo;05 is right up there with past vintages. Dry, balanced and rich in tannins, it has classic varietal notes of black currants, cedar and herbs. Should develop for the next four or five years.

Souverain Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2005 750ml Winemaker's Notes: Blend: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Syrah, 1.5% Petite Sirah, 1.5% Cabernet Franc Rich aromatics of roasted coffee, black and red fruit on the nose lead to flavors of black cherry, black plum and blackberry on the palate. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon creates dark, brooding yet structured tannins along with subtle layers of vanilla, bittersweet chocolate and baking spices. This balanced wine offers a well-structured mouthfeel that contributes to a long, toasty oak finish. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderful introduction to Alexander Valley.

An extremely nice wine, rich and balanced, that approximates Cabs costing far more. The flavors of blackberries, cherries and chocolate have an earthy edge of dried herbs and crushed spices, enhanced with smoky oak. Easy to find with 35,400 cases produced.

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is another very good value. Ripe black currant, herb, and spice box aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, attractive, fruity Cabernet with good texture, depth, and richness, and no hard edges. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.

Firm and focused, with moderately concentrated plum, spice, and currant flavors extending into a lively finish. Could be richer, but has a future. Best after 1994.
