What to Expect

Pinotage, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, is considered to be one of the classic grapes from South Africa. It can produce a very distinctive wine with a hint of rubber on the nose that leads to a rather fruity palate with notes of banana, plum and cherry. While the grape is high in tannins, the wine is produced in a broad range of styles.

Winemakers Notes

There’s no way getting around it, Pinotage is quite unique., whether you like or not there’s no way that once you have tried it you will not have an opinion about it. When it’s on its game it can be quite engaging and Anthony Hamilton Russell’s Southern Right Pinotage is a definite player in the Pinotage stakes. The 2006 is classically structured in the positive way, lots of sweet dark berry, dark cherry fruit with wafts of smoke and loam, touched up with a floral lift and ever so slight suggestion of banana aromatically.
