Sorrel Canyon Cellars Chardonnay 2009

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Framed with flavors of apple, sweet melons and citrus with a mineral-tinged finish and notes of cinnamon. Chill it just slightly and serve it with bay scallops in a cream sauce, fresh salads topped with chilled shrimp or chicken strips and tilapia Florentine style.

Very fresh, with crisp green apple, melon and banana flavors and highlighted by zesty acidity and flinty mineral notes. Terrific alternative to your favorite white Burgundy or Pinot Gris. Full-flavored but not overwhelmingly heavy, it dances across your tongue and finishes clean and dry. Terrific with oysters and other shellfish, but also pairs well with most chicken and pasta dishes.

Fresh, clean aromas of apple, ripe pineappple and subtle vanilla notes carry through onto the palate. Precise balance between lively citrus and a creamy, mouthwatering texture make this inexpensive Chardonnay an exceptional value for white wine lovers. Not heavy or masked by too much oak, just packed with salivating fruit and a silky, flavorful finish.

This wonderful value in California Chardonnay, and from Mendocino of all places, has captured our attention again with yet another tasty vintage. With perhaps a little more oak than previously, the flavors of ripe red apple and pear are even more focused, vivid and mouthwatering. Hints of hazelnut and pie crust on the finish are an interesting component of this wine.

Full-bodied with ample butterscotch and toast flavors to compliment the ripe citrus and red apple flavors, this excellent value in Chardonnay could easily compete with wines twice the price.

The new vintage of this perennial staff favorite has arrived, and I am pleased to report that it equals the great reputation of its 2006 predecessor. A bright gold in color, the nose is subtly floral with aromas of dry grass, melon and vanilla. The feel is textured and delicate, crafted in a Burgundian style, and presents hints of honey and banana - a delicious alternative to the overly-oaked style of some California Chardonnays. This is the perfect white for all occasions, and an exceptional value.
