Soos Creek Red Bordeaux Blend Horse Heaven Hills Champoux Vineyard 2009

Member Review by jtryka:

The nose is a lovely combination of leather, tobacco, and a wonderful combination of sweet fruits, cherries, blackberries that just seem to play around the edges. Surprisingly, this is not a particularly fruit forward wine, instead I experienced a rush of floral notes at the outset, which was then followed by some very subdued flavors of ripe berries. The finish was quite nice, with some earthy notes accented by some cedar and a hint of anise, as the rather young tannins made for a bit of tightness that might open up with a bit of time. We established our winery in 1989 on the belief that the vineyards of Eastern Washington were capable of producing world-class vinifera wine grapes. The recent accolades for Washington state wines certainly confirms the extraordinary terroir of our vineyards. By starting our winery at a relatively early time in the Washington wine industry, we were able to source our grapes from a few of the best and oldest vineyards in the state. We believe that blending wines made from different grape varieties and sourcing grapes from different vineyard locations will generally make a more balanced wine with better flavor complexity. However, in years when the wines of a specific vineyard are especially outstanding, we may also produce vineyard-designated wines. We believe that exceptional wines should age well. Therefore, most of our wines are built around a tannic backbone that has proven to give them a long life. Read less

Chocolate, tar, blackberries, violets, and dark fruits are found in the aromas and flavors of the uncivilized 2002 Champoux Vineyard (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc). Though pure, ripe, and dominated by fruit, this super-concentrated effort is more reminiscent of a barrel sample than a bottled wine. Hugely powerful, it will require patience. Projected maturity: 2010-2020. ** Only 4 in Stock **
