What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Editorial Reviews

Opaque -reticent yet pure, light pepper toned black fruits, a touch of char/toast plum/blackberry/blueberry fruit with nuanced mineral, spice, flowers and almond notes - matte, surprisingly structured, bright acids, somewhat extracted tannins, spicy, pure boysenberry and light herb/cracked pepper notes then very plummy, big, dark and muscular if a touch simple, very clean and brisk on the finish though the dry wood tannins clamp down a bit, needs 6 months or some air but quite good 89pts

Reviews

Meaty cherry and blackberry flavors, with a prelude of blueberry and blackberry jam aromas. Nice acidity.

I received this as a free sample from Sonoma Vineyards. This is their first release of Syrah and it will have a suggested retail price of $15. According to the information sent with the wine, the fruit comes from the Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley.Night OneColor was deep inky purple, going to bright shiny ruby at the edges. The nose is a pleasure, a meat and jam-filled treat. Bunches of black fruit are softened with some bloody meat, along with cinnamon and black pepper. It is the kind of wine you can just smell for the longest time, forgetting for a while you are supposed to drink the stuff.Blackberries, read more...
