Sonoma Domaine Chandon Carneros Pinot Noir 2007
The 2007 Carneros Pinot Noir exhibits delicate aromas of lavender, juniper and red cherry along with hints of sweet brown spice and sage. The striking ruby color foreshadows the rich flavors of boysenberry, black raspberry and red cherry. The concentration of the 2007 vintage is evident with the vanilla spice, pomegranate and mineral characters in the finish. The roundness in the mid-palate and well integrated tannins should allow this wine to age with elegance. Serve this versatile wine alongside lighter game meats such as quail or duck topped with a reduction sauce and lentils on the side.
Domaine Chandon is one of the most recommended wineries in the Napa Valley, and the only one with its own 4-star restaurant. The winery established its reputation with sparkling wines, and in 1989, the winery began crafting still wines from the classic Champagne varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
As rare as it is to find, I was pretty excited to try a varietal Pinot Meunier. There's a savory film on the nose, with hot hints of spice and dried red fruit. The flavors are quite bright, and also quite tart and acidic. The finish is extremely long. Dark cocoa and a wooded, rustic character.
Very vegetative, herbal, and tea-like qualities on the nose, with a delicate and complex mouth. I wouldn't want to drink a lot of it, but for one glass it's very nice. Definitely a thinker instead of a doer.

A very earthy nose of mushrooms, wet soil and truffles. Firm acids on the attack, give way to sour cherry and raspberry flavors. The finish is taught, but offers good fruit and some nice vanilla tones from the oak.
Like pinot noir up until the finish, then it has a dried cranberry quality and turns a bit funky and vegetal. Weird spice character. I'll stick with pinot noir. -Tasted at the winery 9/20/09
I've always preferred Pinot from Santa Barbara or the Santa Lucia Highlands, but Carneros has started to find its groove. This Pinot has more of a cinnamon spice as opposed to the smoky plum flavors of the former. A bit of earth. Good structure and complexity for a Pinot under $25. I will start trying some more Pinot's from the Carneros region. Will buy again.

Sweet scents of molasses, cherry, and leafy dried herbs pair classically with cedar and pepper. A sip reveals tobacco and dark plums. Lightweight and big on flavor, this wine is a natural for barbecue with its herbaceous, charred finish.
Soft-textured, with pretty cream and toasty oak flavors along with ripe cherry- and berry-laced fruit that has attractive earthy, mineral tones. Drink now through 2006.
The Carneros Pinot Noir offers enticing aromas of black cherry, juniper berries, black currants, anise and cinnamon spice. Black cherry and red raspberry flavors dominate the palate with an underlying flinty mineral charm for which the Carneros region is known. The texture is framed by well-developed tannins and balanced acidity, and a lingering finish of dried cherries contribute to the wine's overall complexity.
Medium red. Reduced aromas of smoked meat, earthy red fruits and spices. Silky, ripe and harmonious, with warm flavors of sweet red berries and cola. An expansive, rather full-blown pinot that could use a bit more precision and verve. Tannins are smooth, but the finish shows strong oakiness and a bit of alcoholic heat.
