What to Expect

"Black and bitter" in Italian, not surprisingly Negroamaro has origins in the Southern Italy's Puglia region and is an important grape both on its own and as a blending grape. It contributes a rich, slightly rustic mouthfeel to a finished wine imbued with a slightly burnt, earthy quality that accentuates deep, roasted plum and mocha toned fruit.

Winemakers Notes

This wine is made with 100% Negroamaro grapes. It is very dense and scarlet-red with berry and spice aromas. Its palate is fleshy, full bodied and round with excellent balance and tones of blueberries and prunes with an alluring creamed rhubarb fruit character.

The name Solyss is derived from the Latin word for sun, and beautiful bright sunshine is something that's never lacking in the Puglia region of Southern Italy. So they hired super star wine maker Chris Ringland who's made multiple 100 point wines in Australia from old vines grapes. He produced this 100% Negroamaro using grapes from 60 year old vines. The intensity and concentration comes through brilliantly as does the bright read more...

Bought one today on sale for $7.33.

Site description is right on point. A bit bitter in the finish. But very earthy and just from Nonno's barrel in the wine cellar. For $7.33 a steal ! A good everyday wine for the old world Romans.

I'll return and buy a case for this price. Very deep rich plum flavor with a little sticky sock mixed in.
