Solitude Chardonnay Carneros 2010
The wine is yellow straw in color. It possesses appealing aromas of vanilla crème, ripe apple and toasty new oak. The wine is nicely balanced and has a pleasing bouquet with an elegant and subtle long-flavored finish. Winemaking protocol includes full barrel fermentation, weekly stirring and secondary malo-lactic fermentation to increase complexity and richness.
The vinyard was first cultivated by the Barbarini family in the 14th century. The Barbarini's by then were wine makers of the pope that had moved to Avignon. The current owners mother is the last Barbarini alive. Expect a warm welcome in the simple tasting room. The Lancon brothers and their winemaker are very knowledgeable and speak English.
