Sokol-Blosser Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Unusually smoky and showing some caramel sweetness on the nose right off the bat. There’s nice intensity to the loamy accented red cherry/cranberry fruit on the nose and the smoky and gentle toast fades nicely into the background mostly replaced by lightly herbal/floral aromas. This is nice if tense in the mouth with vibrant acids lending a touch of dried orange peel to the core of cherry/raspberry fruit. There are some gentle tannins here but this is light bodied and supply with nicely aromatic fruit in the mouth and then some licorice root and stem offering contrast on the moderately long finish. 88pts

The nose is completely different... smell the mineralic soil. Why Karrie did the Place at Perry's Wine Dinner with Sokol Blosser. In French oak for 18 months.

cherry, some smoke and cedar. really captures that rustic bright red fruit combo. I love the nose! There's nice acidity on the palate with the rustic, red berry fruit charging through. Then later I experienced pepper and earthiness even more so.

Fantastic Willamette Pinot. Loads of dark fruit, cola, spices, mouth watering acidity and a long finish.

I really enjoyed this wine. It has a powerful black cherry flavor which is balanced with the nice complexity of vegetal, mushroomy, and barnyardy loveliness. It lingered pleasantly on the palate.

Classic Dundee Hills on the nose- bright cherry and strawberry preserves mixed with toasty oak, moist earth and a touch of pine. Soft on the palate, the dark red fruit dominates the mid-palate and carries through to a clean, precise finish. The wi... Alex Shaw. Sokol Blosser has been producing stellar Pinot Noir from their Dundee Hills vineyards for over 30 years. In 2005, Dundee Hills was recognized with its own AVA within the Willamette Valley because of outstanding wines like this one with aromas of raspberry, black cherry, truffles and loam. Aged 16 months in French oak, on the palate it shows ripe berry and dusty cocoa that linger on the finish.

This Oregon Pinot spends 16 months in French oak and is a lovely expression of this variety.
