Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District Napa Valley 2011

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Grapes for this Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon were sourced from Wurtele Vineyard mid-way up the rugged mountain slopes West of St. Helena. Planted in the early 1990's, with elevations ranging from 600 feet to nearly 1,000 feet with 360 degrees of exposure and two different soils, volcanic and sedimentary. Planted in 1972, this place is wild, literally. Imagine a drastically varied terrain, extreme slopes, towering redwoods and all the critters and creatures that enjoy living in such extreme conditions. The vines are dry farmed and grow on steep, southern facing slopes that produce concentrated flavors and bold mountain structure. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes went through a double sorting before final selection. After fermentation in open-top tanks aging was in 75% new French oak barrels and the wine was bottled unfined. The cool 2011 vintage resulted in a polished wine with pure mountain fruit character, aromas of berries and cassis, and hints of perfume, thyme and sweet vanilla. It has seamless tension between the acid and fine-grained tannins, providing a lively palate and nice length on the finish. Only 450 cases were produced.
