Editorial Reviews for Sobon Estate Zinfandel Fiddletown
A touch of fudge and moist earth with lovely brambly notes of sapwood, herb and wild black raspberry fruit edged with a touch of pipe tobacco. Pure black raspberry fruit on entry, very good acids, lots of sweet fruit here, nice top notes of briar and bramble. Nice purity of well-expressed yet uncomplicated fruit. A wine for drinking, not for thinking about. Finishes with a slightly jammier tone and more wood spice but still nicely balanced and fresh 87pts
User Reviews for Sobon Estate Zinfandel Fiddletown
Add your reviewBalance of this wine is clearly toward the fruit with rich almost sweet berry flavors. Fruit seems more mixed into rather than integrated with the other elements. Strong nose with spices and hints of vanilla. Warm finish. Medium acid, medium tannin, medium body. For the price might be good for parties but needs some work integrating the fruit, perhaps decanting could help.
Very dry and richly tannic. Dense and layered blackberry, blueberry and currant with some leather and bitter dark chocolate. It's lacking some of the spice and jam notes I like in zinfandel, but it's a nice wine.
Not as good as the 2006 $15 and more than worth it!) but really for $13 it is ok for everyday - a bit on the fruity side - aging will help for a year or two at least but will not last that much longer I would imagine -
This is very near what I really like out of a Zin. Lots of fruit, not overly sweet, and kick, kick you butttom. Really digging Amador Co wine, can't wait to do a tasting tour there.
Sobon is a big favorite of Total Wine Stores. I tried 4 the Zins (they bottle way too many zins to be reliable), and would never buy it again. All were "poor", even for the low price.

A ripe, rustic Zin, the Fiddletown being one of Sobon's better bottlings every year, grown high in elevation. Its serious tannins are balanced by burgeoning blackberry and blueberry fruit interweaved with all the tobacco and leather one has come to expect from this neck of the woods.
A clean, basic red wine that's focused on standard berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Fresh but simple, with limited raspberry and cherry flavors along with a touch of vanilla. Competent but entirely regular.A thoroughly enjoyable Zinfandel that shows the variety's lusty character, but with special grace and finesse. Bone dry and richly tannic, it has complex flavors of blackberries, blueberries and currants, with earthier notes of tobacco, leather and unsweetened dark chocolate. Very fine.
Tastes fresh and jammy and slightly gassy, like a new Beaujolais, although it should calm down and settle by mid-2009. Then it will be a fine, fruity Zin, fruit-forward and dry in blackberries, cherries, raspberries, raisins, mocha and pepper.
The deep ruby-colored 1999 Zinfandel Fiddletown exhibits a sweet bouquet of jammy black cherries, pepper, and salty sea breezes. It possesses abundant glycerin, excellent concentration as well as purity, and a slightly late harvest, robust, straightforward style. Consume it over the next 4-5 years.
The color is ruby/garnet to the rim with a purple core. The nose is very perfumed with classic brambly spiced cherry and plum fruit with an underlying mineral component from the decomposed granite schist soil. Nuances of sandalwood, dusty rose petal... Andy Frieden. A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2007 Sobon Estate Zinfandel Fiddletown 750ml
Bold and expressive; classic Amador-style Zin. Deep black cherry and cassis up front, balanced by firm tannins and toasted oak notes; smooth, dry finish. An everyday favorite!
