Food Pairings for Sobon Estate Zinfandel Amador County Rocky Top
Musky nose but, then, some irritating alcohol scent pops up. It's OK in the mouth, though. Very jammy, mouth-filling berry flavors. Nice relaxing finish. Had it with pasta and red sauce, last night. US$13.99.
Sweet, spicy, and zesty. A good red for summer weather.

If you ask a Wine Associate at Premier for a recommendation for a good Zin, in any price range, invariably you will be led straight to the Sobons. While each bottling is a superb example of the Amador County style of Zinfandel, my personal favorite is the Rocky Top. Not as spicy or sweet as the Fiddletown, not as restrained as the Cougar Hill, this wine is bold and rich, with densely layered blackberry, dark cherry and cacao notes. Blended with small amounts of Petite Sirah, Carignan and Barbera to add complexity, it pairs beautifully with any roasted or grilled red meat dish.
Superripe yet supple. Displays white pepper, raisin and licorice notes, with focused flavors that take on a minerally firmness on the finish. Drink now through 2012.
The official alcohol and residual sugar numbers suggest a dry wine, but the wine tastes hot and sweet, almost Porty, with baked fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries, currants and pepper. Will appeal to those who like this big, jammy style of Zinfandel.
A very distinctive Zin that has that purity of flavor and individuality that tells you it comes from a particular of earth. Itrsquo;s dry and earthy-rich, with finely ground tannins reminiscent of espresso.
An old vine Zinfandel of immense proportions, from a very shy-producing vineyard with soils of volcanic ash and boulders. The very floral, vanilla and raspberry jam aromas are forward and inviting. The flavors match the aromas, with a rich juicy component. The finish is long and velvety-rich.
Pepper and plum scents meld with this winersquo;s zinny florals. It has a light tannic backbone to support the superripe grape flavors, delicious with grilled fennel sausages over pasta.
Produced from 100% organically grown grapes; a complex, serious zinfandel (not a fruit clown) in a youthrsquo;s frame. Dark black cherry in the glass, red raspberry and sweet, chalky, plum skins on the midpalate. Finishes long with strawberry, cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon-dusted tannins.
