A very distinctive Zin that has that purity of flavor and individuality that tells you it comes from a particular of earth. Itrsquo;s dry and earthy-rich, with finely ground tannins reminiscent of espresso.
Somewhat plush in the nose, with smoky, rich black cherry, chocolate, coffee, spice and herb notes on the palate. Tannins are big and powdery, keeping the toasty finish in check.
This is an outstanding Zinfandel of immense proportions. Floral aromas of vanilla and raspberry jam are very forward and inviting. The flavors match the aromas, with a rich juicy component. The finish is long and velvety rich. Serve with chicken, lamb, beef or pasta dishes.
The 1997 Zinfandel Rocky Top reveals copious quantities of wild berry fruit, spice, pepper and oak. Generous in the mouth, with medium to full body, pure fruit and a nicely layered texture and moderate finish, this heady Zinfandel should be drunk over the next 2ndash;3 years.
