Sobon Estate Zinfandel Amador County Old Vine 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

Rich and bold, this Zinfandel is hand harvested from select, sustainably grown Old Vine blocks from 35 to 104 years old. Gently pressed, this wine goes through an extended fermentation to further enhance the zesty black fruit flavors that have made this irresistible wine our most popular and sought after offering. Spicy and fresh flavors are complemented by accents of licorice and sandalwood. Medium to full bodied with enticing aromatics and a smooth clean finish, this versatile wine goes with everything from pepper seared ahi to a thick medium rare bacon blue cheese burger and will always make any gathering of friends and family a more festive affair.

Spicy strawberry and raspberry aromas with a dusty earthiness underneath. Bright and cheerful cherry and strawberry notes on the palate with soft mixed berry fruit and zesty baking spice filling the mid palate. On the finish there's a drying tannic skid and a bit of smoke that plays against more tart fruit and a touch of herb.

This is a mellow old vine zinfandel having nice cherry and berry flavors with a touch of cranberry undertones. Tannins and balance is wonderful. Deep lasting dusty characteristics and rounded spices.

Starts with a nice aroma but has not taste and the alcohol level is too high to pair with good food. Pass on this wine.

Organically grown wine. Spicy and cherry. Smoother than their other zins. Nice finish.

The wine has aromas of spice, cherry and concentrated fruit. It is restrained and very complex. Enjoy with lamb, beef or pasta dishes.

Lovely mountain Zin, showing a briary, brambly quality to intensely flavored wild blackberries, blueberries and cherry liqueur. There are also tiers of peppery spices, licorice, chocolate mint and soy. Polished and dry, this fine, complex Zinfandel is drinking well now.

A clean, basic red wine that's focused on standard berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Fresh but simple, with limited raspberry and cherry flavors along with a touch of vanilla. Competent but entirely regular.A thoroughly enjoyable Zinfandel that shows the variety's lusty character, but with special grace and finesse. Bone dry and richly tannic, it has complex flavors of blackberries, blueberries and currants, with earthier notes of tobacco, leather and unsweetened dark chocolate. Very fine.

The deep ruby-colored 1999 Zinfandel Fiddletown exhibits a sweet bouquet of jammy black cherries, pepper, and salty sea breezes. It possesses abundant glycerin, excellent concentration as well as purity, and a slightly late harvest, robust, straightforward style. Consume it over the next 4ndash;5 years.

High-toned spices, cinnamon and a reddened thyme show the wood influence that carries through this big, burly Zin. Itrsquo;s a sweet, almost Porty red, balanced by tannin gripping in the heat of the finish, by flavors of blueberries in syrup set against dried scents of woodland scrub. An intriguing Foothills style to serve with braised short ribs.

Grown at the Lubenko Vineyard from head-pruned vines planted in 1910, this is an intensely concentrated, bowl-you-over zin that manages to stay in balance. Therersquo;s an iron-rich soil character that keeps it savory against purple fruit, which will need time in bottle to grow more expressive. Scents of dark mushrooms, chili spice and leather all add to the complexity. Decant this several hours before dinner if you open it now, to serve with braised lamb.
