What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Winemakers Notes

Crisp and tangy. A bit sharp but mingles cherry and passion fruit flavors pleasantly. These flavors are elegantly balanced with the wines crisp acidity and its lush supple tannins. The long elegant finish shows off a hint of sweet oak.

Editorial Reviews

At first very low key but pure wild syrah fruit with a candied cherry top note and a core of violet pastille, yet with air this turns a bit dank and candied with notes of sweet tea, old flowers and tank stink coming to dominate the nose. Soft, flabby and amorphous in the mouth with faded fruit tones and a whiff of vanilla all in a very easy style. 73pts

This is a delicious syrah. lots of fruits right from the gate with a really smooth finish. The finish is a bit short, but I can easily look this over since it is one of the better syrahs i've had this year at this price point...hell, at any price...

The Rhône Valley has clearly been a major source of inspiration for American winemakers recently. Syrah was first planted in Washington in the 1970s. This bottle is smoky with earthy aromas of leather and dark berries. Aged in oak (25% new) for less than a year.

Woodsy, smokey, a little mediciney. Bright and fruit forward. All in all pretty good! I picked up this bottle for 7$ and at that price it is a steal. Probaby a good buy under $10. Side note - real nice flavor on the sides of the tounge (oak?)

Barnyard, manured nose. Palate has a nice texture. Nothing outstanding, but there's a bit of eucalyptus and some leather. Pretty boring.

The wine was pretty ordinary as Syrahs go. I asked the waiter the vintage, because the fruit did not seem as ripe as it could have been. The bouquet was fruity, I got a little oak, complexity was lacking, and cherry and tar came through on the midpalate. The finish was minimal. It surely wasn't worth the $10 or $11 per glass they charged me in the restaurant.
