Smith Madrone Chardonnay Spring Mountain District Estate Bottled 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

This Chardonnay is a lovely vibrant medium yellow, with a mixture of green apples, pears and lemons in the aroma. This is a very user friendly, hedonistic wine that is fun to drink, but at the same time is very serious. While the middle palate is soft, lush and round, the wine has an underlying backbone of acid which makes the wine go perfectly with food. We would be surprised if you didn’t think this was one of our very best Chardonnays and maybe one of the best you’ve ever tasted.

Smith-Madrone Vineyards & Winery:
Smith-Madrone is a family-run estate-bottled winery dedicated to producing fine wines wines exclusively from its own vineyards. The winery was founded in 1971 with the purchase of 200 acres high atop Spring Mountain west of St. Helena in the northern Napa Valley.

Rating: 86/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. The Smith-Madrone winery style has never been one of extravagance, and this clean but fairly underplayed wine fits expectations to a "tee". Medium-bodied, a touch still in feel and showing an edge of chalk at the finish, it never speaks with a commanding voice and necessarily needs pairing with similarly subtle foods.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
