Sledgehammer Zinfandel North Coast 2007
Editorial Reviews for Sledgehammer Zinfandel North Coast
Heavily toasted oak notes on the nose are joined by lightly brambly blackberry fruit notes, all accented with hints of pepper and vanilla. Big and voluptuous, but with plenty of supporting acidity. This is rich if a little dense, with a nice vein of forest floor and herb helping to enliven the black cherry and blackberry fruit. This is smooth and lacks a bit of detail but delivers a nice fruity mouthful of aromatic Zinfandel. The tannins turn a bit rough on the modest finish, lending a bitter chocolate note, but this is eminently drinkable. 87pts
Bold and good for the price.

Intense aromas of blackberry, black pepper, toasted oak and a hint of brown spice. Bright flavors of raspberry and blackberry fruit with some vanilla highlights from the influence of aging in small oak barrels. - Winery
Winemaker's Notes:A new style of big Zin bold and complex. Dark, ripe fruit and surprising complexity make it wise beyond its years. When you take a sledgehammer to Zin grapes, you get intensely ripe and complex flavor thats a hammer blow to your taste buds.Sledgehammer + Ripe, dark Zinfandel grapes = Rich, full bodied flavor that will leave you begging for more.
