Sky Vineyards is a fourteen-acre vineyard and small family winery nestled between the crown of Mt. Veeder and the expansive sky. Planted at an elevation of 2100 feet and on the eastern-facing hillside, the Zinfandel and Syrah grapevines ripen under full sun and fog-cooled evenings into intense berries. The reddish volcanic soil and unique physical characteristics of Sky produce a unique wine that reflects where it was grown and the care and attention it receives at every step of the process. Sky Vineyards strives to incorporate sustainable practices into the cultivation of the vines and operation of the winery. Responsible practices include use of permanent cover crops, dry farming, promotion of bird and beneficial insects, and use of organic or low impact pesticides and fertilizers. The resulting intensely flavored fruit is then hand-harvested and fermented in open top one-ton bins. Punch down is performed by hand three times per day. After fermentation, it is pressed in a traditional basket press and aged in French oak barrels. Lore Olds designs artwork for each new vintage. Sky wines typically have intense fruit, raspberry, violet and peppery flavors. They are well structured and have balanced acid and tannins. These Zinfandels age beautifully, and while enjoyable when young, they continue to mature. Sky Vineyards is proud of the one hundred percent hand-crafted Zinfandel and Syrah it produces and believes the care and attention is reflected in every glass. Read less

Sweet and herbal on the nose with a pronounced mintiness and autumnal notes of cocoa and balsamic forest floor. There is a touch of peppery watercress and suggestions of candied red fruits. A touch of volatility mars the nose. Elegant and pure in the mouth with sappy berry fruit and classic notes of bramble that are more vegetal that usual. Soft tannins and juicy acidity support the bright red candied fruits with grace notes of blackberry leaves and dirt adding depth and complexity. A touch astringent and decidedly tart this is cleansing and refreshing in the mouth in an easy drinking style but suffers in the mouth from a touch of volatility as well. 87pts

Raspberry heavily prevalent in this simple, medium-bodied wine. Very ripe flavor, and a lot of citric acid.

Very ethanolic on the nose. Hot and fiery with strong plum notes. Despite being mountain fruit its clearly a hot year. In the mouth however, its surprisingly restrained. Not old world restrained, but restrained as in balance. Very nice cherry and tobacco notes and some nice spice and pepper on a surprisingly earthy mineral finish. Pretty tasty

Floral, concentrated, dried raisin nose. Palate is very dry with rough tannins, powerful berry flavors and a medium acidity. It's quite tart in the mouth and on the finish.

Hot nose full of red fruits. Spicy but not overly spicy. Dark and light colored fruit flavor. Dry. Very enjoyable and drinkable.
