Skærsøgaard Gold Top 2008

Member Review by MetteinCoMo:

I had never tried a wine from Denmark before, and I was honestly a little skeptical about how it was going to turn out. However, after an hour of decanting the wine opened up into a flavorful and complex wine. The wine has a dark ruby color with some cloudiness and a very aromatic nose of cassis, black pepper and nutmeg. The palate is dry and the body medium-full with a slight chewy texture. The attack is dominated by both red and black currants followed by a mid-palate of spice (mostly black pepper) and oak, which lingers into a medium finish with a hint of pencil shavings. The tannins are strong and dry, but fairly well balanced with a smooth acidity. In short, a flavorful and bold wine with a subtle finish. The price is high for what you get (which is the case for all Danish wine), however I found it well worth it to try something new and different!
