Sinskey "Marcien" Proprietary Red Cabernet Franc Usa California Robert Sinskey 2006
Dark glossy color, more red than black, gleams from the glass. Aromas announce youthful bright fruit, laced with earth, olive and herbs. Cassis and plum arrive on first sip, resplendent on a mouthful of silky tannins and kept from excess by the bright cut of acidity. Marcien boasts a seemingly incongruous combination of power and lightness that forces you back to the glass to ponder such a coexistence.
Purchased while at the winery. Pours a deep dark inky purple color was some reddish orange hues toward the edges. Lots of plum and currant aromas and a hint of alcohol. Starts off with a big amount of plum flavors hitting the palate. In the middle, the plums and currants mix with some herbs and vanilla. On the back end, more plums/currants/herbs/vanilla, but there is a hint of alcohol. A big full bodied Bordeaux red, very tasty. This could still age for 3-4 more years. The tannins were very smooth but there was nice acdity to balance it.

Herb-scented cassis, licorice and lightly roasted coffee hit amongst exotic smoked spice aromas.
Winemaker Notes - Marcien draws the eye to its lustrous deep purple core, which lightens as it veers through ruby in approaching a pink rim. The aromas enshroud your sense of smell in a dense cloud of currants, plums, sweet herbs, violets, warm fresh olive bread and cocoa. Flavors burst on the palate with a sip. The plums taste dark, joined by bright strawberries, intertwined with herbs recalling sage and fennel, touched lightly by cocoa nib and vanilla, all underlaid by the savory intensity the Japanese call umami. The ripe tannins weave a luxurious texture, and these, combined with remarkable concentration and exquisite balance promise decades to explore culinary suitors.
