What to Expect

Pinotage, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, is considered to be one of the classic grapes from South Africa. It can produce a very distinctive wine with a hint of rubber on the nose that leads to a rather fruity palate with notes of banana, plum and cherry. While the grape is high in tannins, the wine is produced in a broad range of styles.

This has lovely purity of flavors, showing violet, raspberry, cherry and spice. A delicious and unique wine, a great value from South Africa. The 2000 is elegant right through to the long finish. Serious fruit, with blackberry and cassis, and smoke and mineral notes. Full-throttle, fleshy finish. Let this round into form. Drink now through 2004. -The Wine Spectator
