Very sweet and assertive on the nose, but the integrated spice notes meld well with green and smoked peppers. Lot’s of emergent red cassis notes. Smells pretty fresh and well balanced. Medium bodied, a bit too much drying tannin right up front and a touch lean on the mid-palate but with nice freshness, and a good balance of fruit, earth, and wood spice notes. Refreshing acidity and decent length but the finale is a bit bitter. This ends up feeling a bit too extracted and comes off a touch clumsy in the end. 85pts
Reticent at first then quite seductive with deep black raspberry fruit joined by creamy oak and nutty nuances and finally a floral top note. In the mouth this is soft and still creamy with confected notes of black cherry and chocolate dominating a mid-palate, which has not structural center. On the backend the oak gains the upper hand and the finish is limp and dominated by oaky flavors. This has seen better days and appears to be only a shadow of it’s former self. 84pts

Dark fruit with an earthy taste, hints of leather and tobacco. Medium to full bodied, slightly tannic should age well for a few more years I enjoy this wine and the other SIMI offerings (Landslide and the Reserve) I will definitely purchase this again.
Fruity nose. A bit hot, and somewhat tannic, but with an amazing, rich finish. A nice steak would exponentially improve this wine.
Dark rum raisiny nose, with a thick sort of intense palate, lots of dark fruit, like blackberry jam without the sweetness. Seems a bit hot and unbalanced to me, but I like some of the fruits and oakiness here.
A lot of great depth and promiscuity here, what with the mixture of chocolate, ripe blueberries, and some light spicy oak. Sexy!

Simi 2009 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon follows up on its deep, dark garnet color with lifted, pretty aromas of clove, cinnamon, hints of cedar, mint chocolate, and toasty oak notes that beautifully frame dark fruit. Simi Vineyards has enjoyed a rich history in California wine making. One of the first wineries to rebound after prohibition and since then has lead the charge in making classic Alexander Valley Cabs among other prime selections. The first American client of famous French Enologist Michel Rolland, current winemaker Steve Reeder has won consistent accolades throughout the industry including making a Wine Spectator #1 Wine of the Year when he worked at Chateau St. Jean. Simi owns 600 acres of estate vineyards in Alexander Valley including the Landslide vineyard, and so Reeder has access to the best fruit in the region. This 2009 shows that very well with intense black cherry, blackberry flavors balanced by supple tannins and toasty, spicy notes that linger on the finish. A classy wine that’s a stalwart of Sonoma County, showing real pedigree and at a great price.
