A lot of what we do at Simi is based on tradition, enhanced with cutting-edge innovation. Our philosophy has always been to maintain the quality and style that we're recognized for, while at the same time improve our methods for growing grapes and crafting wines to reflect the experience and knowledge we are accumulating and have been throughout the winery's 125-year history. Long ago we also realized the importance of Alexander Valley and knew that it would be a leading appellation for growing Bordeaux varietals. Today we showcase the region with our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as our vineyard-designated Landslide Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1989 we purchased our Russian River Valley Goldfields Vineyard and planted it to hand-selected original cuttings from some of the best and oldest vineyards in California. This innovative technique gives us the amazing diversity of flavors that has made Simi's Russian River Reserve Chardonnay famous. Simi's unique vineyards are the genesis of our distinct wines. Our warm Alexander Valley Estate Vineyards are planted primarily to red Bordeaux varietals and are the source of Simi's Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards encompass nearly 600 acres and possess some of the most diverse soils of any wine-growing region, resulting from eons of geologic activity including a catastrophic landslide which changed the course of the Russian River. Complementing the Alexander Valley Vineyards, Simi's 120-acre Goldfields Vineyard in the Russian River Valley is the backbone of the Simi Chardonnay. Planted with a wide array of clones and field selections, Goldfields Vineyard is one of the most diverse vineyards in the Russian River Valley and all of California. With every taste of Simi wines you'll discover our devotion to tradition that is enhanced by our pursuit of the best vineyards, the best grape-growing methods, and the best winemaking techniques. Very sweet and assertive on the nose, but the integrated spice notes meld well with green and smoked peppers. Lot’s of emergent red cassis notes. Smells pretty fresh and well balanced. Medium bodied, a bit too much drying tannin right up front and a touch lean on the mid-palate but with nice freshness, and a good balance of fruit, earth, and wood spice notes. Refreshing acidity and decent length but the finale is a bit bitter. This ends up feeling a bit too extracted and comes off a touch clumsy in the end. 85pts

Very pretty ruby color. Oaky, minty nose with some blackberry. Initial palate sensation is fruity, almost sweet. Again blackberry flavors, followed by some "woody" things. Tannins sneak up in there, but not terribly distracting. Medium-length, pleasant finish.

Very rich and full of sweet fruit. The nose is of cedar box and plums. Its over-extracted, but i rather enjoyed it. Slightly bitter on the finish Tasted at the Snooth PTP California Cab blind tasting: http://www.snooth.com/talk/topic/snooth-ptp-california-cabernet

I drank a bit of this wine after the bottle had been opened the previous day, then re-corked until we consumed it. I really enjoyed a lot about this wine. It had a great nose with aromas of raisin and spice. On the palette, there was a perfect amount of dryness to it. Not enough to make the drinker feel uncomfortable, but enough to leave a pleasant satisfaction in the mouth. The flavor profile includes cherry and mocha. I'd love to try more of this wine on another occasion where the bottle hasn't been opened for so long.

We shared a bottle - excellent taste decantered. We both have the worst headache this morning! For the price of this wine, and the headache that followed, I am grateful we only purchased 1 bottle. Normally we love Alexander Valley cabernets!

Produced in the rich and complex Bordeaux style, this wine exhibits aromas and flavors of cherry, cedar and black currant, with a long fruit finish.

Dense and tannic, with lots of blackcurrant and cherry flavors and elaborate oak. Acids and tannins help it to achieve a certain complexity. Notable for its smooth structure. It's best consumed soon, with a good steak.

Smooth, ripe and polished, with lots of pretty plum, currant, black cherry and spicy Cabernet flavors to admire. The tannins are ripe and polished, too. Drink now through 2003.

Elegantly styled, with just enough rich wild berry and blackberry fruit to hold your interest, though, curiously, the berry fruit tips into Zinfandel territory, which isn't a bad thing - just different. Drink now.

Soft and polished in cherries, blackberries, cola, tea and oak flavors, this Cab finishes dry. It's got a good, crunchy bite of tannins to work against a grilled steak or chop.

93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit VerdotDark red with a ruby cast. Aromas of ripe plum and sweet raisin laced with blackberry, soft cedar and spice. Fresh berries and cassis with undertones of tobacco and lush, ripe tannins ending in a long, velvety finish.

Bursts of rich, dark fruit and cassis lend complexity to this full-bodied wine. Hints of cocoa are intertwined on the long, rich finish of this age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon.
