Simi Sonoma County Zinfandel 2007
Wine Tasting Notes Sonoma County is home to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in California. In the winery, traditional winemaking techniques such as open-top fermentation and gentle extraction yield a deeply colored Zinfandel. It is delicious with barbecued meats, pasta with red sauces, aged cheese and spicy gumbo. Ruby red with slight purple cast. Brambly raspberry, red cherry dusted with baking spices, black pepper and cocoa. Fresh upfront berry fruit laced with vanilla; light toast on the finish.
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
Tried this in a blind taste test. Did not fare well. Hints of apples, lemon, and lots of oak. Some spiceness. Almost a cinnamon flavor. The fruit was under ripe. Dissapointing given the price. I have had bad luck with 07chardonays from california this year. Generally I like california chardonays. I'm conncerned with california wines this year. Rising prices, diminished quality. Look for better values in chile and argentina. Maybe next year will be better.

Simi is one of California's oldest wineries. Their Chardonnay is a rich wine with hints of vanilla on the nose backed up by loads of ripe fruit.

Achieves the alchemy of well-toasted oak and perfectly ripe fruit to produce this luscious, creamy Chardonnay. Mangoes, papayas, pineapple custard, caramel, vanilla, itrsquo;s all there, along with crisp, balancing acidity.
Much better than the wineryrsquo;s regular rsquo;06 Sonoma County bottling, which was released a year ago. This wine is mellowing with bottle age, showing softly decadent flavors of grilled pineapples, buttered toast and smoky oak. Easy to find, with 17,500 cases produced.
This shares a family resemblance to Simirsquo;s 2003 Sonoma County Chardonnay, both finishing with a white cornmeal flavor of toasted lees (perhaps from a higher proportion of lots fermented with native yeasts). In the reserve, you get substantially more elegance, and a gentle delivery of finely ripened fruit. It tastes of white peach, golden delicious apple and camomile, the fruit integrated into the oak, lasting along with that leesy tone. Zelma Long set the standard for Simi Reserve in the eighties and nineties, now taking impressive new directions under winemaker Nick Goldschmidt.
