Simi Sonoma County Zinfandel 2006
Sonoma County is home to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in California. In the winery, traditional winemaking techniques such as open-top fermentation and gentle extraction yield a deeply colored, fruit forward Zinfandel. Simi Zin is blended with Petite Sirah to enhance color, bring out the mid palate and extend the finish. It is delicious with barbecued meats, pasta with red sauces, aged cheese and spicy gumbo.

Spicy apricot and earth tones dominate the nose with a touch vanilla and fresh leather which turns quite leathery and shoe store like with a decidedly floral edge. A bit matte and dull in the mouth with a pretty intense yet somewhat generic fruitiness. There’s some nice cherry fruit here though and a very gentle, rich mouthfilling character that has a certain appeal, particularly in light of the modest alcohol. Gentle and easy with decent balance and a fresh appeal. I would not be averse to a glass of this. Finishes with a touch of harsh acid and long, grapy fruit. 85pts

One of the most smooth and creamy Chardonnays ever. A bit pricey, but probably my favorite bottel of Chardonnay.
a really nicely balanced chardonnay, not a ton of oak and it has hints of pears, apples, and even banana.
A fruity and earthy aroma, with slow syrupy legs running down my glass. Subtle smoke, smooth woody character at the very beginning of the sip, with dark cherry in the middle, ending with a barely detectable hint of licorice and soft spice, with the cherry lingering in the back of the throat. Very smooth, very easy drinking. May be one of the best zinfandels I've tried. Can't wait to drink again!
An initial stinky tar followed by pear and blackberry aromas. chocolate and cassis flavors but overall the wine isn't working very hard for me.
I got this for $9.98 at World Market and it was good, very smooth and for the price it's a great one to bring as host/hostess gift or backyard bbq, whatever.
Prominent oak, toast and butter in the nose partially obscure some white tree fruit and a hint of orange peel and flowers. Apple, pear, and some tropical fruit on the attack; mid-palate exposed buttery vanilla cream and an uncharacteristic slight tinge of leather. Diacetyl and more toasty oak on a slightly astringent finish. Reasonably well balanced but a little hot, with evident malolactic qualities. Extremely tight when first popped, better 2nd day. Also improved as it warmed up a bit, serve a shade above chilled. Oaky and buttery overall; not great but simple, decent and drinkable with reasonable QPR.
