Winemaker's Notes:

Sonoma County is home to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in California. In the winery, traditional winemaking techniques such as open-top fermentation and gentle extraction yield a deeply colored, fruit forward Zinfandel. Simi Zin is blended with Petite Sirah to enhance color, bring out the mid palate and extend the finish. It is delicious with barbecued meats, pasta with red sauces, aged cheese and spicy gumbo.

A lot of what we do at Simi is based on tradition, enhanced with cutting-edge innovation. Our philosophy has always been to maintain the quality and style that we're recognized for, while at the same time improve our methods for growing grapes and crafting wines to reflect the experience and knowledge we are accumulating and have been throughout the winery's 125-year history. Long ago we also realized the importance of Alexander Valley and knew that it would be a leading appellation for growing Bordeaux varietals. Today we showcase the region with our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as our vineyard-designated Landslide Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1989 we purchased our Russian River Valley Goldfields Vineyard and planted it to hand-selected original cuttings from some of the best and oldest vineyards in California. This innovative technique gives us the amazing diversity of flavors that has made Simi's Russian River Reserve Chardonnay famous. Simi's unique vineyards are the genesis of our distinct wines. Our warm Alexander Valley Estate Vineyards are planted primarily to red Bordeaux varietals and are the source of Simi's Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards encompass nearly 600 acres and possess some of the most diverse soils of any wine-growing region, resulting from eons of geologic activity including a catastrophic landslide which changed the course of the Russian River. Complementing the Alexander Valley Vineyards, Simi's 120-acre Goldfields Vineyard in the Russian River Valley is the backbone of the Simi Chardonnay. Planted with a wide array of clones and field selections, Goldfields Vineyard is one of the most diverse vineyards in the Russian River Valley and all of California. With every taste of Simi wines you'll discover our devotion to tradition that is enhanced by our pursuit of the best vineyards, the best grape-growing methods, and the best winemaking techniques. Spicy apricot and earth tones dominate the nose with a touch vanilla and fresh leather which turns quite leathery and shoe store like with a decidedly floral edge. A bit matte and dull in the mouth with a pretty intense yet somewhat generic fruitiness. There’s some nice cherry fruit here though and a very gentle, rich mouthfilling character that has a certain appeal, particularly in light of the modest alcohol. Gentle and easy with decent balance and a fresh appeal. I would not be averse to a glass of this. Finishes with a touch of harsh acid and long, grapy fruit. 85pts

One of the most smooth and creamy Chardonnays ever. A bit pricey, but probably my favorite bottel of Chardonnay.

a really nicely balanced chardonnay, not a ton of oak and it has hints of pears, apples, and even banana.

A fruity and earthy aroma, with slow syrupy legs running down my glass. Subtle smoke, smooth woody character at the very beginning of the sip, with dark cherry in the middle, ending with a barely detectable hint of licorice and soft spice, with the cherry lingering in the back of the throat. Very smooth, very easy drinking. May be one of the best zinfandels I've tried. Can't wait to drink again!

An initial stinky tar followed by pear and blackberry aromas. chocolate and cassis flavors but overall the wine isn't working very hard for me.

I got this for $9.98 at World Market and it was good, very smooth and for the price it's a great one to bring as host/hostess gift or backyard bbq, whatever.

100% ChardonnayBrilliant light straw in color with a slight golden cast. Intriguing notes of spiced apple, honey pineapple, and warm citrus are highlighted by vanilla and toast. Full and intense flavor of roasted pear and nectarine are warmed with toast and spice. Clean delicate fruit balanced with acidity builds to a long, lingering finish.

Simi is one of California's oldest wineries. Their Chardonnay is a rich wine with hints of vanilla on the nose backed up by loads of ripe fruit.
