Simi Roseto 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Sonoma County’s Simi Winery is one of California’s oldest wineries. It was founded in 1876 by Giuseppe and Pietro Simi. Giuseppe’s daughter, Isabelle, took over management of the winery at the age of 18 and ran it successfully until 1970 when she retired. Over the years, Isabelle planted her “Roseto,” Italian for rose garden, with a new rose planted in honor of each new U.S. President (except, of course, for President Herbert Hoover, who enacted Prohibition in 1920). To this day, Isabelle’s Roseto blooms fragrantly for visitors at the winery’s century-old cellars in Healdsburg. A tribute to Isabelle, the wine’s dry, delightfully fresh, crisp and juicy style honors her legacy.

A lot of what we do at Simi is based on tradition, enhanced with cutting-edge innovation. Our philosophy has always been to maintain the quality and style that we're recognized for, while at the same time improve our methods for growing grapes and crafting wines to reflect the experience and knowledge we are accumulating and have been throughout the winery's 125-year history. Long ago we also realized the importance of Alexander Valley and knew that it would be a leading appellation for growing Bordeaux varietals. Today we showcase the region with our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as our vineyard-designated Landslide Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1989 we purchased our Russian River Valley Goldfields Vineyard and planted it to hand-selected original cuttings from some of the best and oldest vineyards in California. This innovative technique gives us the amazing diversity of flavors that has made Simi's Russian River Reserve Chardonnay famous. Simi's unique vineyards are the genesis of our distinct wines. Our warm Alexander Valley Estate Vineyards are planted primarily to red Bordeaux varietals and are the source of Simi's Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards encompass nearly 600 acres and possess some of the most diverse soils of any wine-growing region, resulting from eons of geologic activity including a catastrophic landslide which changed the course of the Russian River. Complementing the Alexander Valley Vineyards, Simi's 120-acre Goldfields Vineyard in the Russian River Valley is the backbone of the Simi Chardonnay. Planted with a wide array of clones and field selections, Goldfields Vineyard is one of the most diverse vineyards in the Russian River Valley and all of California. With every taste of Simi wines you'll discover our devotion to tradition that is enhanced by our pursuit of the best vineyards, the best grape-growing methods, and the best winemaking techniques. A mellow blend that leans toward being dry, with tart and mineral notes. A little non-descript, but well worth the $7.

Another great Rose from Sonoma. This is a very fruit forward rose that is smooth on your palate. Very crisp and refreshing.

Ruby hue with a fuchsia rim. Mixed aromas of cherry, strawberry and a light verdant, garden scent. Sweet black cherry flavors with an edge of tartness. Lasting fruit impressions with a light brush of tannins that rein in the sweetness. The Wine News. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2007 Simi Winery Roseto 750ml

Peach with rose hues. Strong aromas of strawberry, pineapple, cherry, melon and green mango with white pepper spice. The flavor is fruit forward with nice structure and balanced acidity of pineapple, pear and wild strawberry.

The Wine News ReviewRated 90Reddish-pink hue. Delicate rose petal aromas with hints of cherry and black earth. Tasty cherry flavors with orange notes. Clean, even finish with just the right amount of tannin to temper the sweetness and conclude on a dry note.Wine Tasting NotesThe Roseto is a light pink wine with peach hues. Strawberry and citrus aromas have hints of lemon blossom. Fresh strawberry and peach flavors round out this wine. Perfect for a hot summer night.
