Simi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 1997
For our Reserve Cabernet, we blend the finest lots from our diverse Alexander Valley vineyards to create a wine that is a balance of elegance, power, depth and complexity. The ideal growing season during 1997 allowed the grapes to ripen and develop fully, ensuring soft and integrated tannins and forward, rich fruit. Bright blueberry, blackberry and deep cherry flavors combine with spice and vanilla. The finish is long, rich and supple. Excellent aging potential.
Very much an earthy and oaky nose. On the tongue, it takes a half-second to really taste anything. This wine is, pretty much, bereft of fruit, and I am very OK with that. After those 500 milliseconds pass you realize that this wine has an incredibly soft texture. Then you get the slightest hint of currant but more woody flavors and more earthy flavors. Still some strong tannin with marginal acid. It’s very reasonable to conclude that this wine is on it’s downward slope, but I don’t care. I am going to very much enjoy the rest of this bottle.
