Winemaker's Notes:
The remarkable color of this wine cannot be ignored. It is brilliantly clear straw with shades of gold throughout. The nose is similarly expressive, with bright nectarine, peach, apple, orange blossoms, and delicate spices along with hints of smoky toasted oak. It all comes together on the palate with well-defined, supremely balanced and forward flavors of tangerine, peach, and green apple that are lifted by a warm, toasty oak character best described as sweet vanilla mingled with hazelnut, nutmeg, and smoky bacon. This Chardonnay finishes with a delicate and light floral touch.

The 1996 Chardonnay Sonoma is a straightforward, pleasant, tropical fruit, apple and pear-flavored wine with some spice, good structure, tart acidity, and a medium-bodied finish. Drink it over the next year.

Broad leesiness and toasty oak give this a smoky bacon scent. Itrsquo;s supple and warm, a white to chill for a grilled pork chop.

A little thin and herbal, but shows enough Chard character to accompany good shellfish or a chicken or veal dish. Modestly oaked, the wine has peach, tangerine, buttercream and smoky flavors.

Appealing green apple, pear, honeysuckle and spicy apricot flavors emerge from behind a green note up front for a long, rich aftertaste. Drink now through 2001.

A solid performance from a solid performer. Bosc pears and nectarines flesh out a lemon-lime backbone. Finishes well, with lemon and nutmeg nuances. On the lean side, but crisp and clean.

A simple chardonnay oriented toward orange marmalade sweetness and buttery white cornmeal flavors of lees. Chill it for fish chowder.
