A lot of what we do at Simi is based on tradition, enhanced with cutting-edge innovation. Our philosophy has always been to maintain the quality and style that we're recognized for, while at the same time improve our methods for growing grapes and crafting wines to reflect the experience and knowledge we are accumulating and have been throughout the winery's 125-year history. Long ago we also realized the importance of Alexander Valley and knew that it would be a leading appellation for growing Bordeaux varietals. Today we showcase the region with our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as our vineyard-designated Landslide Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1989 we purchased our Russian River Valley Goldfields Vineyard and planted it to hand-selected original cuttings from some of the best and oldest vineyards in California. This innovative technique gives us the amazing diversity of flavors that has made Simi's Russian River Reserve Chardonnay famous. Simi's unique vineyards are the genesis of our distinct wines. Our warm Alexander Valley Estate Vineyards are planted primarily to red Bordeaux varietals and are the source of Simi's Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards encompass nearly 600 acres and possess some of the most diverse soils of any wine-growing region, resulting from eons of geologic activity including a catastrophic landslide which changed the course of the Russian River. Complementing the Alexander Valley Vineyards, Simi's 120-acre Goldfields Vineyard in the Russian River Valley is the backbone of the Simi Chardonnay. Planted with a wide array of clones and field selections, Goldfields Vineyard is one of the most diverse vineyards in the Russian River Valley and all of California. With every taste of Simi wines you'll discover our devotion to tradition that is enhanced by our pursuit of the best vineyards, the best grape-growing methods, and the best winemaking techniques. The Landslide Vineyard is comprised of numerous soil types and microclimates created by an ancient volcanic landslide from nearby Mount St Helena These soil variations, combined with diverse topography, result in varied bud break, flowering, veraison and harvest times in the vineyard blocks Along with the complexity created by the different soil types and topography, Simi has planted an assortment of varieties and clones Nine different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, along with plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec give winemaker Steve Reeder and his team the tools needed to create spectacular blends of the "big five" Bordeaux varietals

We made our first wine from Sonoma County grapes in 1876 and have been continuously making wine in the same stone cellar in Healdsburg, California since 1890.

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast "This bottling has been a star for Simi since its inception, and the '05 is among their best ever. It shows Alexander Valley’s softness and slight herbaceousness, along with decadently rich red currant, mocha and oak flavors. Classic and elegant now, it should develop bottle complexities for the next six years. This is a good price, especially compared to what’s going on in Napa."

This vintage, our Landslide Vineyard produced a wine that is intensely seductive with an alluring balance of dark fruit to bright fruit. Opaque deep red with a vibrant ruby edge, this wine begins the seduction with sweet black cherry, cassis, plum, and blackberry fruit aromas along with dark roasted coffee, brown sugar, vanilla, and smoky mineral notes. Subtle wafts of violets, hints of mint and celery seed complete the aromatics. On the palate, dark berries, cassis, blackberries, and plums are enriched with roasted coffee accents. The entry is big, full and rich, followed by a focused middle and a youthful finish with a slight grip and dark roasted offering. This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with grilled radicchio and Gorgonzola wood fired pizza, cauliflower, and winter squash with Bagna Cauda dressing, and cedar-smoked pork spareribs. - WineryVarietal Composition:79% Cabernet Sauvignon10% Cabernet Franc4% Merlot3% Petit Verdot3% Malbec1% TannatAging: 100% oak-aged for 26 months in French oak barrels, 50% newTotal Acidity: 5.5g/LpH: 3.7Alcohol: 14.5%
