Silverado Merlot Napa Valley 2001

Member Review by vingenius:

I have had this wine on numerous occasions and have always been impressed by it. This is Merlot for Cab lovers because this wine has some tannin and nice oak undertones with a structure that reminds me of a good cabernet. This is not your typical jammy, bowl of berries Merlot. The nose does have the mixed berry aromas you might expect from a Merlot, but it also offers a slight scent of vanilla & toasted oak as well. The appearance of this wine is a deep ruby with great clariy. This is clearly a well-made wine. The balance of flavors strikes me just right with this wine. There are berries, oak, and nice round tannins that provide structure without overpowering the wine. I also noted the long finish of this wine. Like I said earlier, this is not a flabby, jammy Merlot. Nor is it a overpowering Napa-style Cab. You can drink this wine right away or hold it for a year or two.

The Mediterranean-style stone winery, established in 1981, stands on a knoll above the Silverado Trail in the heart of the Stags Leap District. Silverado is a legendary name from the early mining days. Today it symbolizes the Miller family’s long term commitment to the future of Napa Valley wine. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
