Silverado Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Napa Valley 2015

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Winemaker's Notes: The 2015 growing season in Napa Valley started out with unseasonably warm temperatures in the late winter and early spring. This resulted in an early bud break and bloom. Colder temperatures in May (during the peak of bloom) caused uneven fruit set which ultimately resulted in much smaller crop in 2015, compared to both average yields and the three abundant years that preceded it. The harvest was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley and for Silverado Vineyards. Average 19 days of maceration. 17 months of barrel age in 51% new oak, of which 91% was French, 5% was Hungarian, and 4% was American. Overall blend: 87% French oak, 7% American, and 6% Hungarian. Varietal: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon 12% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot Vineyard: 52% Silverado Vineyard 39% Mt. George Vineyard 9% Oakville Station Alcohol: 14.4% TA: 6.00 g/L pH: 3.52

Here, Silverado Vineyards has been quietly producing world-class wines from their state-of-the-art winery for over 20 years. With grapes sourced almost entirely from Silverado’s family-owned estate vineyards, these hand-crafted wines are created in small lots with extreme care. They express richness, elegance and age-worthiness. Silverado wines are unique - one-of-a-kind blends of location, philosophy and winemaking style. The Mediterranean-style stone winery, established in 1981, stands on a knoll above the Silverado Trail in the heart of the Stags Leap District. Silverado is a legendary name from the early mining days. Today it symbolizes the Miller family’s long term commitment to the future of Napa Valley wine. Read less

Winemaking Notes: We harvested the grapes at an average of 24.8 degrees Brix with an average of 16 days of maceration. The wine was barrel aged for 17 month in 48% new oak, of which 98% was French and 2% was American. The wine was bottled in July & August 2014 with 28,683 cases produced. Tasting Notes: Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon offers a balanced structure and velvety texture with black cherry aromas and flavors of ripe plum with a hint of mineral and earth. Great mount structure on this medium bodied wine with a hint of licorice and candied cherry on the finish. Alcohol: 13.7% TA: 5.9 g/L pH: 3.61
