Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

93+ Points, Zachys Buying Team: “It screams Napa Valley and it screams for steak. The American classic and steakhouse favorite delivers in the ripe 96-point vintage. Best of all it is drinking today while offering longevity. From the glass it exhibits rich, ripe, succulent fruit notes of plum, cassis, black cherry, along with notes of cedar, tobacco, and savory elements. It is nicely structured, the wine is not over-extracted or excessive in alcohol like some of its high profile neighbors. And with its signature dusty tannins and a hint of mint and sage there is a balancing freshness to the wine. While production is relatively high, it may surprise you to know that the wine is highly allocated and we receive a mere 15 cases, making this truly one of America’s fastest sellers and most iconic bottlings. It is certainly more layered and sophisticated than its Alexander Valley sibling and in 2012 this may just be Silver Oak Napa Valley’s finest interpretation.” "Our 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon artfully combines the classic elegance of the old world and the ripe fruit of California. It displays an opaque garnet color with a bouquet driven by fruity aromas of blackberry liqueur and hoisin sauce. It also offers the savory components of sage and molasses. These complex aromatics are complemented by sandalwood and nutmeg characteristics indicative of American oak aging. This is a well-structured wine with a compact and rich mid-palate buttressed by silky tannins and generous acidity. Given proper cellaring, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2037." -Winery

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less
