Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2014

External Review by We Speak Wine:

TASTING NOTES: Our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has an opaque crimson color with a purplish hue. The alluring nose draws you in with notes of cassis, black cherry, pipe tobacco, salted caramel, cocoa beans and fresh strawberry. This full-bodied wine enters with a depth of flavor and offers mouth-coating, velvety tannins and flavors of cream soda and red fruit. Black currant and vanilla notes crescendo through the palate to the lengthy finish. This wine is drinkable upon release, but given proper cellaring conditions can be enjoyed through 2040. BLENDING AND AGING: Our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.6% Merlot, 6.7% Cabernet Franc, 2.1% Petit Verdot and 1.6% Malbec. It was blended in early 2015 and aged for 24 months in 85% new American oak and 15% one-used American oak barrels from our Missouri cooperage, The Oak. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows all components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. It was then aged for an additional 20 months in bottle before being released in February of 2019. VINTAGE DESCRIPTION: The 2014 vintage was early and exciting. Record breaking dry weather marked the winter months. Warm spring temperatures led to earlier than normal budbreak. Drought conditions were relieved by storms in late February and early March, which coincided perfectly with vines coming out of dormancy. The remainder of the spring and summer were slightly hotter than normal with very few heat spikes and only three days with highs in the triple digits. This set the stage for ideal ripening conditions and wonderful flavor development in the berries. The first of our Napa Valley fruit from our Soda Canyon Ranch vineyard arrived at the winery on August 28. Harvest continued at a moderate pace, and the last grapes were harvested on September 29. While mother nature made her voice heard with the continued drought, the 2014 vintage proved to be otherwise manageable with conditions rife for producing wines of exceptional quality. Composition: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon 11.6% Merlot 6.7% Cabernet Franc 2.1% Petit Verdot 1.6% Malbec Alcohol: 14.2% ** Only 12 in Stock **

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less
