Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 6 Pack 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark, rich full-bodied wine with great tannic structure and mouth-feel. It has a garnet color and a nose of ripe boysenberries, cherry liqueur, dark chocolate, sandalwood and a hint of roasting meat. On the palate, it is mouth-coating and incredibly rich in umami. It has a very long, savory finish with the slight grip of fine-grained tannins. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2030. Alcohol 13.9%.

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less

Classic aromas of light dill, and even oregano, enmeshed in slightly charry Marshmallow vanilla oak. Under that blanket there are balanced and promising notes of bell pepper tinged red cherry fruit. In the mouth his is smooth and velvety with a sweet, easy character and good length to the somewhat simple toasty, black cherry fruit. There's a bit of raspy tannin on the finish but nothing offensive. A solid, if small scaled, bottle of Cabernet. 87pts

The nose has rich currant and dried balckberry flovors. A rich mouthfeel of ripe blackberry and very ripe cherry. a bit hot on the finish but that quickly disapears and finishes long with saddle and leather notes.

Much improved over the '06 but still sadly over priced. Great structure and the tannins are riper in this vintage. Notes of currants and chocolate throughout. Still, there are much better Cabs out there for $60+ than this mass produced name.

One of my favorites. Always reliable and full-bodied Cabernet, and reasonably priced.

Still young, this Silver Oak will mellow over time. Strong flavors of black fruit and cedar, medium tannins and long finish. I'd suggest 2014 as the best time to pop one of these babies.

Vintage: 2015 08/28/2019

TASTING NOTES: Our 2015 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is maroon in color with a garnet hue. It has an enticing nose of maraschino cherries, blackberry bramble and brisket with notes of clove and star anise. Mouthwatering with a juicy entry, this wine has a fruity mid-palate of currant with toasted vanilla and roasted brown sugar character from American oak barrels. Structured tannins provide an elegant character with a long and expressive finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2041. BLENDING AND AGING: Our 2015 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 95.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.7% Merlot, 0.4% Petit Verdot, 0.3% Malbec and 0.3% Cabernet Franc. Blended in early 2016, the wine was then aged for 24 months in 50% new and 50% once-used American oak barrels from our Missouri cooperage, The Oak. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows the components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. After bottling in the spring of 2018, each bottle was aged an additional 15 months before being released in August of 2019. VINTAGE DESCRIPTION: The 2015 vintage was marked by continued drought conditions in California for the fourth consecutive season and taught us how to maximize what nature provides. First, a cool spell followed an earlier than normal budbreak. Warmer weather is favored for good fruit set, and these imperfect conditions foreshadowed that the 2015 harvest was not going to be copious. Vintages like these emphasize the importance of our vineyard team’s efforts for precision viticulture and careful management of irrigation and vineyard activities. Picking in Alexander Valley started early on September 1 after a short heat spell in mid-August and a warm start to September, and harvest turned out to be one of the most compacted in our history. The smaller crop size was a blessing in disguise, as we had ample tank space to macerate our wines for the ideal tannin structure. Furthermore, smaller than average berry size contributed to deep color and high aromatic concentration. 2015 brought flavor density and elegant structure to our Cabernet. We only wish we could have made more. COMPOSITION: 95.3% Cabernet Sauvignon 3.7% Merlot 0.4% Petit Verdot 0.3% Malbec 0.3% Cabernet Franc ALCOHOL: 14.3% ** Only 9 in Stock **

TASTING NOTES: Our 2014 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a garnet color with a ruby red rim and bluish tint. It has an alluring nose of chocolate-covered strawberries, vanilla, nutmeg, truffle and sage. On the palate, it has a broad yet delicate entry and offers cranberry flavors. These flavors are complemented by raspberry and pluot with savory black olive characters on the mid-palate. The wine finishes with silky tannins, cedar and bramble flavors with excellent length and return. This wine is drinkable upon release, but given proper cellaring conditions can be enjoyed through 2038. BLENDING AND AGING: Our 2014 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 97.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.3% Merlot, 0.5% Petit Verdot, 0.3% Malbec and 0.2% Cabernet Franc. Blended in early 2015, the wine was then aged for 24 months in 50% new and 50% once-used American oak barrels from our Missouri cooperage, The Oak. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows the components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. After bottling in the spring of 2017, each bottled was aged an additional 15 months before being released in August of 2018. VINTAGE DESCRIPTION: The 2014 vintage was an even and uneventful growing season with a compressed harvest window. Dry conditions persisted as the Alexander Valley had a mild winter. Fortuitous late winter precipitation provided the vines with plenty of soil moisture for a mid-March budbreak. Most Alexander Valley vineyards went into bloom in mid-May and moved through fruit set quickly. Consistent bloom and set are positive harbingers of even ripening later in the season. The late summer was warm and dry, punctuated by few heat events and moderate conditions that continued into the harvest season. Harvest began in Alexander Valley on September 3 and progressed quickly, with most fruit being crushed in a three week period. Overall, the 2014 vintage was friendly to grapegrowers, providing winemakers fruit with concentration of ripe berry flavors at moderate sugars and with natural acidity, resulting in fresh and well-balanced wines with great aging potential. Composition: 97.7% Cabernet Sauvignon 1.3% Merlot 0.5% Petit Verdot 0.3% Malbec 0.2% Cabernet Franc Alcohol: 13.8% ** Only 1 in Stock **
