Producer notes: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot. Our 2012 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a lively and full-bodied expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from an exceptional vintage. It has a lovely garnet color and opens with aromas of black currant, orange zest and raspberry. These aromas are framed by nuanced notes of vanilla, marshmallow and cocoa, eliciting an effect reminiscent of chocolate-covered berries. The attack is rich and gives way to a mid-palate with breadth and depth, supported with refreshing acidity and integrated, dusty tannins. This wine has power with an unusual vitality and structural balance. Given proper cellar conditions, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2034. Barrel aged 24 months in 48% new and 52% once-used American oak.

Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. TASTING NOTES: Our 2012 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a lively and full-bodied expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from an exceptional vintage. The attack is rich and gives way to a mid-palate with breadth and depth, supported with refreshing acidity and integrated, dusty tannins. This wine has power with an unusual vitality and structural balance. Given proper cellar conditions, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2034. VINTAGE DESCRIPTION: The 2012 vintage saw many winemakers and vintners excited about the exceptional growing conditions. Not only were we excited about the great growing conditions but also the innovative vineyard techniques like berry sensory analysis and precision farming we implemented in our vineyards. The dry winter was followed by well-timed rainfall in February, March and mid-April when we received about two inches that filled the soil profile before the coming season. Budbreak was even and bloom progressed quickly, leading to clusters with both high quality and high quantity potential. The summer weather was wonderfully cooperative with only a single day’s high above 100˚F from May through the end of September and no precipitation until the end of October. A small heatwave on the 1st and 2nd of October was perhaps the only blip in the otherwise mild weather pattern. We began harvest on September 24th and concluded on October 20th before an inch of rain fell in the Alexander Valley on the 23rd. The final tally showing a bountiful harvest wherein quality was immensely promising from the outset. Composition: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon 2% Merlot Alcohol: 14.2%

Because Silver Oak only produces Cabernet Sauvignon from California's two best Cabernet microclimates, their wines are consistently outstanding and complex, brimming with ripe cassis flavors, carefully seasoned with toasty new oak. Because of their long relationships with growers they are able to source the best possible fruit from prime vineyards throughout Alexander Valley. This wine, from the outstanding 2012 vintage in Alexander Valley is a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and just 2% Merlot. It was blended in early 2013 and aged for 24 months in 48% new and 52% once-used American oak barrels from their own cooperage, The Oak, in Higbee, Missouri. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows the components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. After bottling in the spring of 2015, the wine was aged an additional 15 months in bottle before this release coming up in August of 2016. It has a lovely garnet color and opens with aromas of black currant, orange zest and raspberry. These aromas are framed by nuanced notes of vanilla, marshmallow and cocoa, eliciting an effect reminiscent of chocolate-covered berries.
