Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

This full-bodied, classic expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet in a cool vintage has a bright ruby-red color with purple undertones. The nose exudes aromas of black cherry, cedar and black olives. On the palate, its dried herb, cocoa and lavender flavors are framed by dusty tannins and a savory texture. The wine finishes with lively acidity and a lingering persist- ence. This wine should give drinking pleasure through 2029. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Alcohol 13.7%.

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less

Because Silver Oak only produces Cabernet Sauvignon from California's two best Cabernet microclimates, their wines are consistently outstanding and complex, brimming with ripe cassis flavors, carefully seasoned with toasty new oak. Because of their long relationships with growers they are able to source the best possible fruit from prime vineyards throughout Alexander Valley. This wine from the cool 2011 vintage in Alexander Valley is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Like every vintage they age it in 100% American oak barrels for 24 months, but just 40% new oak. The Silver Oak signature of course is then aging the wine in bottle for a full 18 months before release, giving it the time it needs for the tannins to soften and the flavors to coalesce, so that when you pull the cork you can enjoy the full experience. This wine is beautifully balanced and refined. Supple, elegant and densely flavored with ripe berry and dark cocoa nuances. Don't miss it.
