Silver Oak Cab. Sauv. Napa Premier 2011

External Review:

Garnet in color with sweet spice notes on the nose backed by subtle red cherry and eucalyptus - nuanced layered complex and inviting. On the palate it s silky and juicy in texture with mild smooth tannins on the finish. Notes of mocha coffee and damson plum round out the spice nuances. Drinking beautifully now and shows the foundation to age gracefully over the next 10 years. Devon Magee.

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less

Ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of roasted plum red raspberry maple syrup smoke and scotch. Dense but bright and youthful. Flavors are still rather primary and high-pitched. Finishes rather tannic but the tannins are smooth. This wine should undergo an interesting evolution in bottle-in contrast to some past vintages of this wine which have not gained noticeably in complexity with bottle aging. 90(+?) points Stephen Tanzers IWC.

...The color remains a healthy dark ruby/purple and the nose offers earthy toasty new oak and sweet black fruit aromas. Tight yet powerful and rich this full-bodied dense atypically backward Cabernet Sauvignon does not possess Silver Oak s usual approachability and precociousness. Nevertheless this wine has plenty of merit. It should drink well after 3-5 years of cellaring and last for 15+ years. These All-American Cabernet Sauvignons continue to be "can t miss" propositions with the majority of C
