What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

The Alexander Valley cuvee is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new oak. The Alexander Valley offers abundant quantities of spice vanillin cedar herbs and smoke soft round creamy-textured flavors good black cherry and currant notes and a spicy medium-bodied easy-going personality. Enjoy it over the next 7-10 years.

Editorial Reviews

Classic aromas of light dill, and even oregano, enmeshed in slightly charry Marshmallow vanilla oak. Under that blanket there are balanced and promising notes of bell pepper tinged red cherry fruit. In the mouth his is smooth and velvety with a sweet, easy character and good length to the somewhat simple toasty, black cherry fruit. There's a bit of raspy tannin on the finish but nothing offensive. A solid, if small scaled, bottle of Cabernet. 87pts

Winemaker Notes - The 2005 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon beautifully expresses the full aromatic ripeness of this exemplary vintage. It is full bodied and yet refined, and consistent in its color, aroma, palate and finish. It has a dark garnet color and a nose of black cherry, clove, cinnamon, lavender and licorice. It is seamless on the palate with a solid core of berry fruit, velvety tannins and excellent length. With proper cellaring it should give drinking pleasure through 2032.

Silver Oak wines are supple, fruitful and deliver richness wrapped in good American oak. Critics suggest that because of its 65,000 plus case production the wine no longer merits cult status or the premium price it once fetched.

I will agree that the label might not be a cult must, but it still delivers a great glass of wine; delicious and vibrant with pretty mocha cassis, plum and oak.

While it's not an over-achiever in its class, it is correct and sound, and deserves better grades; after all it is Silver Oak...
