Silkwood Petite Sirah 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sulfury nose, juniper berry nose, Big entry, strict on the palate with a pretty pure if extracted wild berry fruit tone, a touch soft but expansively textured, lots of depth here with a bit of sweet citrus notes on top then a nice pipe tobacco element and plenty of big fruit tannins emerging in the mouth. Finishes a bit short and disjointed. Seemingly has potential to improve but not revealing much today. 86pts

President Reagan, Ed Meiss, Michael Dever and George Bush also served it and transported it aboard Air Force One to French, Canadian and Mexico Summits. My grandfather produced Alicante Bouschet until phyloxera wiped out the vines. He planted rice, which controlled the pest and made eight barrels a year from a few vines of AB and Muscat. My family continues to produce rice in Northern California. Read less

Quite heated nose overpowers the fruit. Light bodied, kind of washed out, powdered sugar and vegetal flavors, some good tannins but overall I'm not impressed.

Interesting medicated rotting fruit flavor, bananas, cotton candy on the nose, eucalyptus, fruity.

Baked brown sugar on the nose. Big and sweet with lots of Christmas spice. Slightly too acidic. Love the nose, that's about it.

Oak and dark berry nose. Pleasant flavor with a touch of spice.

Vegetal notes with vanilla & toasted oak on the nose leading to big, burly tea fruits, pencil lead, spice, earth and wood that obscure the black berry fruits underneath.
