Santorini, GreeceSigalas Asirtiko-Athiri is a beautiful white wine gem from the Greek island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea, where there are ancient vineyards over 3500 years old. If you haven't ventured out to try a Greek wine lately, this is an excellent way to begin! It is a blend of 75% Assyrtiko (the usual spelling) and 25% Athiri from a superb vintage. Mark Squires rated this wine 90 points for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, saying: "A wine at this price level with this much intensity and minerality is a steal." Domaine Sigalas is widely held to be among the best producers of white Greek wines and is considered a master with Assyrtiko. Sigalas Asirtiko-Athiri is light straw-gold in color with a beautiful nose of ripe apples, apricots, citrus and mineral notes. It is medium in body with a rich mouthfeel and flavors of apples, lemon, honey and spice. Well balanced in fruit and acidity to enjoy over the next 4-5 years, the wine is long and pleasing on the finish.Enjoy Sigalas Asirtiko-Athiri as a refreshing aperitif wine and with grilled snapper with fruit salsa, grilled octopus, roasted chicken and summer salads.
