Siduri Wines Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2015

External Review:

Siduri is a unique producer. Started as the shared dream of two Texas wine geeks who wanted nothing more than to move to California and make killer Pinot Noir from the best vineyards, they grew to become the hottest cult winemakers around. This Russian River Valley bottling is sourced from 11 different vineyards in the region, all highly regarded vineyards that Siduri make single vineyard wines from. The lots that show a more forward character go into this blend. Each, of course is fermented separately and aged in French oak separately then they are blended to make this ripe, lush Pinot. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 92 points saying "Like a fresh-picked cherry off the tree, the aromatic entry into this appellation wine is compelling and memorable in Proustian ways. Medium-bodied, it's a highly quaffable experience, sultry on the palate while maintaining a brightness of acidity that ping-pongs between lush and lean."

Siduri started more than 15 years ago in our native Texas. At the time it was a dream shared by two wine geeks (us!) who wanted nothing more than to move to California and make killer Pinot Noir from the finest vineyards we could find. Today that dream is a reality. In 2004 Siduri celebrated its 10 year anniversary. We can hardly believe it, but between two wine labels (Siduri and sister label Novy Family Wines) and three beautiful children, we are beyond blessed and beyond busy! With our small but tireless crew we produce over 25 different Pinot Noir wines each year, representing the largest Pinot Noir focus of any California winery. We invite you to use this site to learn more about our wines, winemaking, and vineyards as well as to access our online tasting notes. To receive information directly from the winery on special wine offerings, events and tastings, please take a moment to join our mailing list. Next time your travels take you to the wine country, be sure to give us a call. We would be delighted to have you visit the winery for a personal tour and tasting. Thanks again for your interest in Siduri. We love what we do and enjoy the opportunity to share with others. Adam & Dianna Lee Read less

One of the many excellent Siduri appellation wines, this Pinot was a steal when purchased at the winery during the Barrel Tasting Weekend. Good black cherry/raspberry fruit density accompanied by notes of dried flowerss, smoke, and a Dr. Pepper-like spiciness. Nicely balanced and full, though a year or so additional age will probably round out the slight austeriy found in the texture.

Purchased on sale during the Barrel Tasting weekend, this wine shows the usual remarkable Siduri fruit density, with bing cherry and plum fruit on top of a strong chocolate/charcoal core. Silky in texture, very ripe feeling in the mouth and finish. Plenty of muscle to deal with grilled beef off the barbecue.

Give this soft, polished Pinot an hour or two in a decanter before drinking and let the air work its magic. While it’s not an ager, it’s fairly tannic, with rich raspberry, cherry, pomegranate and cola flavors. Makes for elegant, sophisticated drinking now.

Offers attractive red and dark berry flavors, with spice, loamy earth and floral scents. Drink now through 2017.

The dark plum-colored 2012 Pinot Noir Russian River exhibits attractive sassafras, black cherry and cola notes, medium body, soft tannins and a straightforward, fruity, enjoyable style. It can be enjoyed over the next several years.

Rating: 86/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. The first, fairly direct and defined black cherry scents speak well for this wine, but the evident hints of charred toast and greens do it no favors. An early bit of fullness on the palate provides a spark of interest that is partially undone by late-arriving thinness to the fruit. A useful partner to lighter steaks or savory salmon dishes, it falls just short of full marks.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Surprisingly wiry for a wine from this vineyard and affected by the same slightly earthy note seen in the other Siduri efforts, this bottling has a touch of rounding on the palate but then runs into a stiffer side complete with a chalky finishing texture that limits the expression of its middling fruit.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
